Yay, the new version of ADOM is out
It's one of the best rogue-style games ever made
This one has "talents" which add further customisation to the game
I think everyone on the site shouyld give it a play
Once you get used to the controls and sort out how to do reasonably on it, it becomes a very addictive little game
Far superior than EGA-trek in every way

Adom absolutely rules. Even better than all the ANGBAND games combined.
ASCII monsters are scary.

Damn you BRR. On a lark I grabbed ADOM and I've been instantly hooked. As of right now 40 something brave adventurers of all races and classes now populate my ever-growing graveyard.
Maybe someday I'll live to rescue that little girl's dog. Until then, mimics are my eternal nemesis.

Like it is fun and all but is it even possible to finish this as your save files don't count when you die :(

9th of December, 2002, 21:26
Yes it is possible. You just need to be really good at cheeting, or be really good at the game, and have a little luck :)

it's about as hard as putting on a hat to cheat
Myself #I'm too lazy
Although I may have a go at the long haul with my next guy
See I told you this is the best game in the world :)

Just wondering, what is the furtherst everyone has been?
Both levels wise, and quest wise.
And what quest, and what race/class?

So many red-worms. They never end. Took out 97 of them before I died.
They kept burning my stuff!! So many!!

Eh, if you could just reload it'd take almost all of the challenge (and thus the fun) out of it.
Highest I've gotten is around 10th or 11th level. Reached it with a few different characters (trollish healer, high elf archer, gnomish elementalist). Usually I cruise along and then something ridiculously stupid takes me out (claw bugs, those things are insanely powerful for such a "weak" creature).
That or my level one characters are ambushed by barbarians and are shot before they can kill anything. Such a short adventuring life...

Yeah my highest level reached now is about 10-11.

ARG!
Its so annoying when your character is ambushed and killed before you can do anything with it.
GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well duh, that happens often that is why I cheat in regards t saving :)

My highest was a Grey elf Wizard lvl 18. I solved the carpenter quest, the bandit leader quest, the dog quest, and the arena quest. Nothing like wieleding a golden gladius as a wizard. :)

Okay has anyone been able to take on the Giant Ants and Win?
If so, for the love of the gods, HOW??!

BigRedRod

Hmmm
They aren't that tough
Just don't try and kill them all (I'm not sure there is a finite number)
BigRedRod
14th of December, 2002, 00:22
and I don't get the problem you had getting in the druid-quest cave
it's just the same way you get in a dungeon normally
just press >

Those Giant Ants arn't that tough as BRR said my Archer takes em down no problem, but when there are so many things get a tad annoying.

curses
I was playing a fire mage (i had one of those fire is 20% cheaper and no non-fire spells) when I got cornered by fire bugs
needless to say with only a knife and a smile I didn't last long
Still that was no2 in my high-score chart :)

The problem with the Druids cave was that I kept on Dieing before i could find how to get to it.
And you've faced the ants without them being hordes of them. The always mass rush me, then eat their way through the walls around me.
Evil, pure evil i tell you.

ADOM never ceased to amaze me in all the various way my heroes could die. Starving had to be the worst though.

I'd just like to point out to the powers that be that Spoon used l33t in this thread and he hasn't been made a banned fool.
And this ADOM this intrigues me...

Spoon did not utter a complete non-sentence in that silly non-language...
And ADOM is just a MMORPG without the annoying chatter produced by other players...
BigRedRod
22nd of July, 2004, 08:14
it also has a plot and is fun
so not really much like a MMORPG at all :)
Anyhow Jade is a cunning combination of d20 and a FFT job system. The main downside is that it will be java based, but I think I'm willing tolerate the awkward usage and slowness for how swish the game should be.
It is a rather sad day for gaming when JADE is the only PC gae I can think of to look forward to (fallout three hangs in the back of mind but since the morrowind team picked it up I'm a little dubious, and it could all fall apart yet)
