I'm a huge Arthurian romantic myself, been to Stonehenge, Glastonbury Tor, seen Arthur's gravesite, been to Tintagel and seen the Camelot museum in Cornwall. I own a lot of material on Arthur, legends/stories etc. I also own an older version of the Pendragon RPG. However, I know it has a 5th/5.1 edition now and was curious if anyone has played or GMed it? It's gone through several RPG companies (formerly by Chaosium/Green Knight/Arthaus Games, now owned by Nocturnal Media?) Thoughts? Opinions? Would anyone be interested in playing it?

I played it.....under a sadistic ignorant GM, but I played it. The only thing I do not like about the system (that I played) was that if the other guy gets a critical hit and you didn't get a hit, you all but died....my character lost his sword arm twice in the game...surviving based on having a high endurance/durability.....and I was the LUCKY guy.

Mind you a critical hit is 1/20 chance.....and a miss is based on your 1-20 score. If you have a higher score, 15-19 its not so bad, but God help you if your fighting anybody with an above 20 score (which we seemed to do on a multi-game session basis)....then they get multiple critical hit scores......

If you have a 25 in lance, then your there is 0% chance that you miss, EVER. On a 1-15 you get a hit and on a 16-20 you get a critical hit. BTW, Lancelot has a 39 skill with a Lance!!!!!! He only gets a hit on a 1 and everything else is a critical!

Well, while unbalanced, that seems to capture the essence of the Arthurian stories pretty well, especially the Morte d'Arthur. The Knights of the Round Table waded through some seemingly pretty tough challenges like nothing!

Yea, the game is all about playing a knight or lady and the descendants of said knight or lady. However, you can survive battles using the proper gear and of course learning to fight well and use your allies. I'm looking ino possibly running it sometime since I've got tons of information on Arthur and England at this time, having visited Tintagel and various places previously.

I can think of better games that capture the Athurian mythos better, if you're interested.

I'm interested in hearing ideas, of course I know I could run it with something like Pathfinder/D&D or BRP which its based on certainly. I got the old Arthurian legends info from 1st edition AD&D and even got some other Arthurian RPG related stuff from Palladium and whatnot.

Plus all the background and info I have on ancient/medieval England having visited from Kent to Cornwall in 1998. Always open to ideas.

Look up Burning Wheel by Luke Crane. I think that game would be perfect, especially run by a GM who knows his history.

I use Burning Wheel to run a game about the Germanic tribes (Saxons and Picts mostly), and it's a great deal of fun. I studied Old English in college and know a lot of the background, and it's an awesome gaming system that rewards that kind of thing.

I've heard of and seen Burning Wheel before, will take a deeper look at it. Your game sounds like something that would greatly interest me as well. Is your game f2f or online? I'd love to check it out/play.

It's f2f, but I was thinking about bringing it online someday. It's got a lot of that Germanic doom and glood tragedy to it, it's really fun. We developed some lineage rules and play the sons and daughters of our previous heroes. It's neat!

Burning Wheel is great for that. What rules are there you really have to follow to get the best experience, but the various subsystems are entirely optional and he breaks down the math for you so you can build whatever you want. It's an interesting take on traditional roleplaying games -- the power of the GM is not as absolute as in other games.

If you do run it pbp or something let me know, I'd really like to try it out and I am of German/Norse ancestry... If you don't mind sharing your lineage stuff, I'd be interested in seeing it. checked out the Burning Wheel wiki, found a module they wrote for the Holy Grail/Arthurian legend bit. Downloaded some of the info there to take a look at.
