View Full Version : Battletech?

Would anyone be interested in trying a Battletech game here? There wouldn't be much effort at a plot (at least, not at first) — just mashing big robots against each other until something 'splodes. Maybe once everyone's gotten the hang of filtering the game through PbP, we could turn it into an actual campaign with persistent characters and the like.

Can I be a halfling rogue?

I'd play. It's been a long time since I played (like 93 or 94), but I'd be interested in trying it out via PBP.

Can I be a halfling rogue?
*laughs*
No, but we could say you've got a midget piloting a Spider.

It's not too bad. The basics of the rules are fairly simple. There are a great many optional rules that add a good deal, at the cost of increased complexity.

I'd be willing to start things along the lines of training simulations or the like, cover the basics before introducing the more complicated ideas.
They don't have anything like an SRD, so reprinting the rules would be a tricky issue at best. I'm not sure what the site's rules are regarding this -- feel free to link to a relevant forum that discusses this if you find it -- but I'll try to limit it to what's necessary.
I own the main rulebook as well as the introductory box, so I'll be using those to moderate the game.

Not using Mechwarrior by chance? I have the Mechwarrior (the RPG for Battletech's wargame) 2nd edition rules and companion sourcebook.
I played Mechwarrior: Dark Ages miniature game for awhile too (yes, I know its a different timeline/setting), but it might be fun to play some Battletech/Mechwarrior.

I've got a copy of that, but I think the 3rd-edition version's better. Not sure if I want to go that far, though it might keep things more interesting if it's done on a personal level.
Not everyone would have to be a 'Mech pilot, either. Unlike a game at home, you don't have to worry about keeping everyone occupied with the same task in PbP. Hm.
'Course, there's the fact that I'd pretty much have to explain the rules fully, since we've got people who haven't played before. (One flaw with running a non-D&D game: can't assume everyone has the rules.)

Interested, if you go the mechwarrior rpg route. I've some of the books, core rules, mechwarrior... maybe one or two others. Packed away somewhere. I wouldn't need a complete rundown, but I'm not sure if I could locate those specific books right now.

I have all of the first and second ed mechwarrior books, and I think I have some of the third ed books as well. A friend of mine wanted to run it many years ago, but it never really got off the ground. I have played first and second ed. quite a bit over the years.

I would LOVE TO PLAY, but I only have MW1, somewhere. How often are you looking for people to post, CharGen rules? Clan, House, Merc.....what year are we going to be playing in, etc?

All right, I've got a forum request up. I plan on placing this at the beginning of the original timeline -- 3025. That way the newcomers have time to get the hang of things before more advanced tech becomes available (and it brings up the possibility of the PCs discovering some of this LosTech).
Keep an eye on things here. Once the forum's in place, I'll post a link.
